At the heart of this volume is another text – Chronicles of the Dier – also compiled and written by Geoffrey Whittier – which outlines the dates of kniown events involving the Dier when they lived on Deer Hill in the 1880’s. This chronicle reveals something of the nature of the fate in which the family was entangled.
This volume ends with a section in which Geoffrey and Edward record events and experiences related to the Dier which happened after the events at Mary Igraine’s House in 1989, up through the 1990’s. This narrative preps Daniel, the horror novelist, and his life-partner Rosalind, for the events described in Volume III; which reveals who the Dier were and what happened to them.
